THACKERVILLE — Class C’s No. 2 Thackerville topped Paoli 36-12 Friday night to open district play and also improve its record on the season to 4-0.
In the first quarter, Thackerville put 14 points on the board with two touchdowns and one successful 2-point conversion.
The Wildcats scored the only points in the first quarter.
A 5-yard touchdown by Ethan Wilson; the senior quarterback added an 11-yard run later in the quarter to put Thackerville ahead 14-0.
Early in the second quarter, Paoli’s C.J. Cunningham ran the ball for a 25-yard touchdown, getting the Pugs on the board. After a failed two-point conversion, the score was 14-6.
A 22-yard touchdown pass from Wilson to Jakota Ballard later in the second quarter increased Thackerville’s lead 20-6.
Wilson had 176 rushing yards with two touchdowns and was four of 14 through the air for 65 yards and one TD.
Ballard totaled 30 rushing yards and ran back a kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown.
With 4:19 left in the game, Thackerville scored the final touchdown of the night as Wilson ran the ball 62 yards for the Wildcat touchdown. After a successful 2-point conversion by Ballard, the game ended 36 to 12 Thackerville.
Though they won, the Wildcats seemed unhappy with their performance.
“Hats off to Paoli, they played good,” Wilson said. “We didn’t play like the number two team in the state tonight.”
Thackerville coach Brad Budish agreed with Wilson.
“It was a tough game,” Budish said. “We came around some injuries and couldn’t execute very well. We have to get better next week.”
Thackerville travels to Sasakwa this Friday.
