Former OU coach Barry Switzer of Coaches’ Cabana has partnered with Chickasaw Country to host the Big Game Tailgate Party at the Chickasaw Nation Welcome Oct. 7. The Chickasaw Nation Welcome Center is located at exit 55 off Interstate 35 in Davis.

Fans attending the Big Game Tailgate Party can stop at the Chickasaw Nation Welcome Center to participate in the tailgate party from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Coach Switzer will be at the tailgate from 10 a.m. to noon to sign autographs and meet fans. Fans will need to bring their own items to be signed by Switzer, such as clothing, footballs or helmets.

While fans visit the tailgate, and have the opportunity to meet Switzer, they will also be able to learn more about other tourism destinations in Chickasaw Country.

Tents will be set up with various vendors and destinations on-site to talk with fans and offer information. Some of the participating Chickasaw properties are: Treasure Valley; Artesian Hotel, Casino and Spa; and Jet Stream Casino.

Paige Williams, director of corporate development and tourism for the Chickasaw Nation, said partnering with Coaches’ Cabana creates awareness about destinations in Chickasaw Country that Big Game Tailgate attendees can plan to visit.

“Last year, the fans attending the Big Game Tailgate Party participated in all of the vendor tents, and were able to gather information on additional tourism destinations in south-central Oklahoma, as well as play the games that each vendor hosted,” Williams said. “Bringing Coach Barry Switzer to Chickasaw Country supports our goal of bringing awareness to the 13 counties in south-central Oklahoma as a travel destination.”

Chickasaw Country will serve hot dogs, chips and drinks at no charge and the Sulphur High School band will perform. There is no fee to attend and the tailgate party is open to the public.

“We hope that fans stop by the Chickasaw Nation Welcome Center on their way to Texas, or just to be a part of the tailgate, and experience a small offering of the many travel and tourism destinations in Chickasaw Country and make plans to return in the future,” Williams said.
