QUINTON — It took a while for Ringling’s offense to get going, but once it did, the Lady Devils were unstoppable.
Kass Perkins hit an RBI triple in the fourth inning to back up a 16-strikeout performance by senior right-hander Angel Stoker in Ringling’s 5-0 win over host Quinton in a Class A regional tournament Thursday.
Later Thursday afternoon, the Lady Devils defeated Davenport 13-1 in five innings.
Ringling will play the Quinton-Davenport winner at 2 p.m. Should the Lady Devils win, they will qualify for state for the second consecutive year. If Ringling loses, a deciding game will be played at 4.
Against Quinton, Perkins’ triple scored Raylee Pogue, who had reached via double, for a 1-0 Ringling lead.
The Lady Devils scored four runs with two outs in the fifth to increase their lead to 5-0. Raylee Pogue crushed a two-run home run. She finished the day with three home runs.
“Quinton’s pitcher threw well,” Ringling coach Steve Pybas said. “We might have been a little tight. Then, we kind of relaxed. When we got that first run in the fourth inning, we kind of loosened up a bit.”
Perkins went a perfect 3 for 3, including two singles and a triple.
Stoker contributed a single and a double.
Against Davenport, Pogue crushed a three-run home in the first inning and added a two-run shot in the fifth to round out the scoring.
Stoker contributed four hits in four at-bats with two RBIs.
London Lewis went 3 for 3 with three singles and scored three runs.
Ringling totaled 17 hits.
The Lady Devils scored three times in the first, six in the second and four in the fourth.
“We just came out more loose,” Pybas said. “Everyone in the lineup had at least one hit against Davenport.”
Stoker notched the complete-game victory. She struck out eight to zero walks and allowed one run on six hits.
“Angel threw well today,” Pybas said.
