LONE GROVE — The Lady Longhorns hit 16 of their 30 shots from beyond the arc and put three players in double figures, en route to a 73-49 homecoming victory over the Calera Lady Bulldogs Friday night at the Gary Scott Center.
Lone Grove basketball homecoming queen Taleigh Nail hit 7 of 11 treys and finished with 21 points, and HayDen Epley drained 5 of 10 with 17 points. Abbi Atkinson had nine points and was 3 of 7 from beyond the arc. Madison Anderson had 10 points with five boards.
The Lady Longhorns (10-8) got two 3-pointers by Nail and another by Epley to help give Lone Grove an 11-9 lead after the first period.
But the Lady Horns really put the game on ice with a strong showing in the second frame. Two more treys by Nail, two by Atkinson and another by Maci McMurtrey left the Lady Bulldogs shell-shocked.
Lone Grove powered to a 21-6 advantage in the second to increase its lead to 32-15 at intermission.
Calera hit just 19 of 51 (37 percent) from the floor overall compared to the Lady Longhorns’ 45 percent (25 of 55). Lone Grove controlled the boards at both ends with a 34-18 rebounding edge and a 16-9 advantage on the offensive glass. The Lady Longhorns outscored Calera 22-13 in second-chance points.
The Lady Bulldogs (6-13) exhibited signs of a rally early in the third and the fourth periods. But with just seven players on the team, they wore down later in the frames.
