After claiming the regional championship for the 15th time in program history last week, the Lone Grove Lady Horns learned Monday the road they’ll have to travel in order to earn their second state title.
The Class 4A state softball bracket was released by the OSSAA, with the Lady Horns set to take the field at 6:30 p.m. Thursday night at Firelake Casino in Shawnee, against Oologah-Talala.
This matchup will be all too familiar to Lone Grove as these two teams met last year in the state quarterfinals at the same location, with Lone Grove winning by a score of 9-0.
Oologah-Talala was the district champion of 4A-7 this season with a perfect record of 12-0, the Lady Mustangs currently sit at 33-3 on the season, having swept past Ft. Gibson and Bristol last week in their respective regional tournament.
Lone Grove meanwhile was the district champion of 4A-2, with an 11-1 record.
The Lady Horns won their third straight regional championship with victories over Elgin, Cushing and Harrah last week and currently own an overall record of 27-4.
Should the Lady Horns win, they could be facing another familiar foe in the semifinals which would take place Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Newcastle Lady Racers, the team who eliminated them last season.
In order for a rematch to take place, LG would have to win its game, and Newcastle (28-6) would have to win its quarterfinal contest against Muldrow (21-12).
Other quarterfinal games on Thursday will see Tecumseh (26-11), the team who eliminated Tuttle at the regional tournament taking on Hilldale (29-3), while Purcell (26-3) will take on Skiatook (21-10) in the opening game of the tournament at 11 a.m. Thursday.
