A Springer man is being treated for injuries following a collision with a semi truck in Carter County on Tuesday.

The collision occurred at around 2:03 p.m. on State Highway 53 East in the city limits of Gene Autry, according to reports by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Roy Mitchell, 49, of Springer was reportedly traveling eastbound on the highway when his pickup truck crossed the center line and struck a semi truck heading westbound.

According to OHP, Mitchell was pinned in his vehicle for approximately one hour before being freed by multiple fire departments on scene using the hurst tool.

Mitchell was then transported by Air Evac to Medical City in Denton, Texas, where he was admitted in stable condition with head, leg, arm and trunk internal injuries.

The driver of the semi truck and a passenger in the semi truck were not injured.

According to OHP, Mitchell was reportedly tired at the time of the accident and not wearing a seatbelt. The cause of the collision is being attributed to him crossing the center line.

Springer Fire Department, Gene Autry Fire Department, Ardmore Airpark Fire Department and the Carter County Sheriff’s Office all assisted OHP at the scene of the accident.
