Betty Jo Reid Vernon was born Dec. 14, 1927 in Petty, Texas to John Wylie and Ellie Ann (Springer) Reid. She passed this life on April 25, 2020 at her residence in Ardmore.

She and James Ralph Vernon were married on Aug. 21, 1948 in Spur, Texas.

The family held a private family service on Monday, April 27, 2020 at Rose Hill Cemetery where she was laid to rest next to her husband Jim who preceded her in death in 1972.

Before she began to raise her family, she worked for Southwestern Bell then retired from Kerr-Reavis Drug.

Betty loved to garden, quilt, needlework and babysit her grandchildren while they were young and spend time with them now that they are grown. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ardmore and the Bide-a-wee Ladies Club.

She is survived by her sons; Alan Vernon and his wife Wynema, Pat Vernon and his wife Debbie all of Ardmore, Daughter; Julie French and her husband Greg of Marietta, grandchildren; Thomas Vernon and wife Kylea of Ardmore, Allyson Black and husband Jeremy of Oklahoma City, Kate French of Oklahoma City; great-grandson, James Vernon of Ardmore; sisters Anita and R.C. Littlefield, Peggy Gibson, Sandra Haws, Becky and Buddy Melton.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Ralph (Jim) Vernon, her parents John and Ellie Reid; brother, John Reid and his wife Loneta; sister, Doris Page and brothers in law Bill Haws and Dick Gibson, beloved nephews Reid Melton, Richie Gibson and Dustin Haws.
