Ardmore police are searching for a suspect believed to have taken his wife and kids to a hotel, holding them against their will.

APD Captain Eric Hamblin said police obtained a warrant of arrest for 27-year-old Aaron Nicholas Carney, of Ardmore, for kidnapping and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony Monday, following a several-week-long investigation.

The investigation stemmed from an alleged kidnapping incident that occurred around 1 a.m. on Dec. 20, Hamblin said. Officers were reportedly dispatched to a local hotel in the 1500 block of Woerz Way in reference to a female being held against her will at gunpoint.

By the time officers arrived, Carney had allegedly left the scene. There were reportedly three children present during the incident. However, none of the alleged victims were injured.

Police discovered that Carney had rented two rooms at the hotel prior to the incident and found two firearms inside one of the rooms.

No contact has been made with Carney at this time and police are asking for assistance locating him. Hamblin said Carney is around 6’2" and 185 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

According to Carter County court documents, Carney was previously arrested for feloniously pointing a firearm in Nov., 2018. However, the case was later dismissed after the alleged victim in the case signed an affidavit of non-prosecution.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Ardmore Police Department at (580) 223-1212. “We have not caught him yet. If anybody knows where he’s at give us a call, we’ll come pick him up,” Hamblin said.
