A Stilwell man is facing charges in relation to an alleged armed robbery in Ardmore earlier this week.

At around 10:24 p.m. on Feb. 24, Ardmore Police Department Sgt. Larry Payne said police were dispatched to a local hotel in the 1900 block of Cooper Dr. in reference to a man who had allegedly been robbed at knife point.

The victim reportedly advised police that a large, white male, later identified as 30-year-old Ronny Ray Sam, had held a knife to his throat and robbed him of his medication. Payne said the medication was identified as a small amount of Klonopin.

“(Officers) attempted to locate the suspect but were unable to locate him at that time,” Payne said. “Officers left the area and a short time later the suspect returned and assaulted the victim.”

The victim reportedly sustained contusions to the head and was transported to the hospital to be treated.

“He was treated and released a short time later from the emergency room,” Payne said. “The suspect was gone by the time officers arrived again the second time.”

Officers were reportedly able to identify Sam as the suspect through photographs and located him on a bicycle a few hours later. “They confirmed his identity and then he was taken into custody.”

Sam is currently being held at the Carter County Jail for a felony charge of first degree robbery and a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery, in addition to a previous outstanding warrant out of Grady County.

Sam’s bond is set at $50,000 and a preliminary conference is scheduled for April 2.
