The Ardmore Police Department is investigating an alleged assault incident after the victim showed up at the Mercy Hospital emergency room Monday evening.

APD Capt. Claude Henry said officers were dispatched to the emergency room at around 5:40 p.m. on May 11. Officers made contact with the victim who advised that he was seeking treatment after being assaulted in the 1600 block of West Main Street.

“When officers made contact with the victim he stated that he got into a verbal altercation with the suspect in reference to some property,” Henry said, adding that the victim told police the suspect had accused him of stealing a backpack.

After the verbal altercation, the victim advised police that he had turned to walk away. As he walked away, the suspect allegedly grabbed a large rock and struck the victim. The victim reportedly suffered a laceration to his right elbow.

“It caused a laceration and shortly after the assault the suspect fled the area,” Henry said. “That’s when the victim went to the emergency room to seek treatment.”

The victim was treated and released later that day. Henry said the suspect has been identified.

“We have not made contact with him yet, that’s where our investigation is at now, locating him to interview him and get his side of the story,” Henry said.
