The Ardmore Young Professionals is changing its name to FUEL Ardmore. The new name represents the organization's goals: to Focus, to Unite, to Engage and to Lead. FUEL President Sarah Johnson said the new name better communicates the organization’s mission and erases any ambiguity about their definition of the words “young” and “professional.”

“Who decides what is young? What constitutes a professional? How often do these two even overlap?,” Johnson asked members during the group’s 2020 kickoff event Tuesday evening following the Ardmore Chamber of Commerce's business after hours event at the Ardmore Convention Center.

She said questions like these miss the greater point of the organization and might make potential members hesitant to join.

“Whether you’re in a corner office or just finishing finals. Whether you’re free and single or in the weeds of raising a family. Whether you were born and raised in Ardmore or don’t know a soul in town. Whether you’ve found your lifetime career or you’re still trying to figure out what you want to be when you grow up, none of that has any impact on the desire to get involved, be engaged, make friends, have fun and become a leader within your community,” Johnson said.

FUEL will continue to focus on creating the next generation of Ardmore leaders. The organization will remain active in the community by hosting summer intern events, holding regular social gatherings, participating in co-ed sporting events and the Corporate Fitness Challenge and organizing service projects like Stuff the Backpack and the winter coat drive.

Johnson said one great aspect of the organization is that members can participate in as many activities— or as few — as they desire. Each member can pick and choose events based on their schedule and interests.

Upcoming events include flag football beginning February 6, volunteering at Night to Shine on February 7, and a St. Patrick’s Day party on March 13.

The new website www.FUELArdmore.org is scheduled to go live today, and the Ardmore Young Professionals Facebook page will be changing its name to FUEL Ardmore. Anyone interested in finding out more information or potentially joining can also email info@FUELArdmore.org.
