Charles William Gill
Funeral services for Charles William Gill, 78, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2020, in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Gill officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery with the assistance of Jacob McDaniel, Kevin Gill, Casey Gill, Jeremy Gill, Michael Gill and Teddy Gill Jr. serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.at the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
Born to the late Ben Tom Gill, Sr. and Helen Louise (West) Gill, on March 28, 1942 in Ardmore, Charles had lived here all of his life. He passed away Thursday, June 4, 2020, at his Ardmore residence.
Charles and the former Elma Ruth Robinson were married June 29, 1968 in Ardmore, and would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary later this month.
Charles graduated from Ardmore High School with the class of 1960 and then attended two years at Murray State College. He served his country in the United States Army where he was a Sharpshooter (Rifle) and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. In his younger years, Charles enjoyed bowling, gardening, doing yard work and was very active with the Ardmore Jaycees Civic Club. He and Ruth loved going out dancing. Charles had worked with various loan companies until 1988. He then was employed with Ardmore Post Office as a Rural Mail Carrier, a career that lasted over 30 plus years, retiring in 2018. Charles loved his job but most of all he enjoyed seeing people while on his route as well as all the different types of wildlife.
Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth, of the home; his son, Will Gill and wife Becky; grandson, Jacob McDaniel and wife Courtney and their daughter (his great-granddaughter), Madison; three brothers, John Gill and wife, Barbara, Jeff Gill and wife, Brenda, and Lt. Col. James Gill and wife, Lori; three sisters, Mary Baber and husband, Walter, Glenda Walker, Anne Gethcell and husband, Willy; numerous nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ben Tom Gill, Jr., George W. Gill and Theodore H "Ted" Gill; and sister, Ethel Louise O'Donnell.
Charles was a kind and gentle man who loved spending time with family and friends. Charles William Gill will be missed, but not forgotten.
