LONE GROVE — One could say the last few days have been like a double whammy for the Sulphur Bulldogs.

Friday they were handed their first loss of the season in a close game against the Byng Pirates in Oklahoma City, and then Monday they were dropped out of the Class 4A poll after earning their first ranking of the season.

Tuesday night showed they were less than phased by the series of events.

A barrage of three-pointers propelled the Bulldogs to a rebound victory against the Lone Grove Lonhgorns by a score of 57-29 at the Gary Scott Center.

Sulphur improved to 6-1 on the season with the victory, while Lone Grove fell to 3-4 overall.

The game was close early on in the first quarter as both teams traded baskets, leading to a 6-6 score at the 3:46 mark of the opening frame.

But the Bulldogs caught fire from behind the arc, and it led to a 15-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Sulphur’s offense was just getting started though as the Bulldogs opened the second quarter on a 12-0 run to lead 27-6 at the 4:59 mark before halftime.

The Bulldogs ended the first half leading 34-11, before going on a 15-9 run in the third quarter to lead 49-20.

Lone Grove managed to outscore the Bulldogs 9-8 in the fourth quarter.

Cole Hammond led the way for the Bulldogs with 18 points followed by TJ Todd with 13 points and Weston Arms with 12 points. Tavs McDonald added eight points.

Jeshua Miller and Jackson Ramon each had eight points apiece to lead the Longhorns.

Sulphur will open play at the Charles K. Heatley tournament Thursday against Davis in Lindsay, while Lone Grove will open the Longhorn Invitational on Thursday at home.
