Lady Horns overwhelm Marlow to claim third place trophy

LONE GROVE — After being held to one of her lowest point totals of the season Friday night, Lone Grove’s Cheyanne Davis decided to take matters into her own hands Saturday afternoon.

Davis scored a team-high 20 points for Lone Grove as the Lady Horns claimed third place at the Longhorn Invitational tournament with a 39-31 victory over the Marlow Lady Outlaws.

With the game tied at 11-11 in the second quarter, the Lady Horns went on a small 4-2 run to grab a 15-13 lead at the 1:37 mark before halftime.

Lone Grove would eventually build a 16-13 advantage going to the break.

After the break, the Lady Horns clamped down on defense as they held the Lady Outlaws to five points in the third, while scoring 13 of their own to build a 29-18 lead going to the fourth.

Marlow tried to stay in the game during the fourth quarter, but could only get as close as six points at 37-31 with 21 seconds left in regulation.

Malea McMurtrey added six points in the game for Lone Grove with Maili Coe scoring five points, and Lydia Saavedra putting in four points.

Lone Grove will host Marietta on Tuesday night beginning at 6:30 p.m.
