Fox’s Jada Newhouse goes up for a layup in transition during the first half Monday night against Elmore City-Pernell at the Fox Den.

FOX — While the injury bug has tried its hardest to derail the Fox Lady Foxes recently, the spirit of the ladies in red and white has proved to be stronger.

Monday night was a clear example of that.

Despite playing without Maci Rodriguez on the floor, Fox’s dynamic duo of Bree Phelps and Jada Newhouse proved to be a solid 1-2 punch as the Lady Foxes cruised to a 56-29 victory over Elmore City-Pernell at the Fox Den.

Things started out slow for the Lady Foxes in the first quarter as they led 6-3 with 44 seconds left in the opening frame.

Fox ended the first quarter leading 9-3.

But the slow pace didn’t last long for the Lady Foxes, as they picked up the tempo on both ends of the court before halftime.

Fox ended up scoring 20 points, while holding the Lady Badgers to just seven, giving them a commanding 29-10 advantage going to the locker room.

ECP threatened to make it challenging for the Lady Foxes in the third as the Lady Badgers managed to outscore Fox 11-9, cutting the lead to 38-21 going to the fourth.

But the Lady Foxes woke up down the stretch, shutting down ECP to the tune of eight points in the fourth quarter while scoring 18 of their own to seal the victory.

Jada Newhouse led Fox with 17 points followed by Bree Phelps with 15 points.

Ginny Knox scored eight points, with Deja Petties putting in six points.

Sidney Fletcher and Skyla Rose each put in four points apiece.

The Lady Foxes will host Oklahoma School for the Deaf this evening at 6:30 p.m. and be back in action Thursday in the opening round of the Bulldog Bash Tournament at Healdton.
