The Ardmore Parks and Recreation Department is offering an opportunity to take a walk into yesteryear and relive the 1980’s.
The 80’s Prom Gone Bad Murder Mystery Dinner is set for Oct. 5 at Heritage Hall. This year, the annual murder mystery dinner will feature a collaboration with the Ardmore High School Theater Department.
Students from the theater department will serve as the actors for the event.
“We are super-excited,” Parks and Rec Recreation Supervisor Tes Stewart said. “The kids are really excited. We are kind of branching out and we did something a little different. We are doing it as a little bit of a fundraiser for them.”
The murder mystery dinner was moved to Heritage Hall to provide a more authentic 80’s prom experience. Many who lived in that decade can recall proms held in the largest place available on their campus.
“We thought it being a prom, Heritage Hall, being an auditorium, fit the theme a little bit better,” Stewart said.
The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with the event starting around 6 p.m. Parks and Rec is hoping to line C Street NW, between Heritage Hall and First Bank & Trust Co. with vehicles and will have the street blocked off.
“We are looking for 80s cars because we are going to line the street with different cars for when they walk in,” Stewart said. “We are also looking for any 80s prom decorations that we can borrow.”
Participants are also encouraged to dress in their favorite prom attire.
Parks and Rec Assistant Director Dustin Scott said the line dancing ladies from Oklahoma City will make a return appearance for this year’s event. The meal will be catered by Two Frogs, which will also have a cash bar set up.
“It is kind of immersive,” Scott said. “You are going to want to look around because maybe, you see evidence. There will be clues. Last year, people got there right at 5:30 p.m. because they wanted to be the first ones in before things could have been disturbed.”
The prom will come complete with champagne glass souvenirs and the announcement of a prom king and queen. ADA Chamber President and local personality Bill Murphy will serve as the high school principal for the dinner.
The cost for 80’s Prom Gone Bad is $50 per person and $350 per table of eight.
