Woodford Arvell James Pickens

Funeral services for Arvell Pickens, age 80, are Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 11:00 A.M., at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Hickory Cemetery with Pastor Tommy Brown to eulogize. Arvell James Willis Pickens Sr., was born February 23, 1942 in New Port, Oklahoma to Dollie Jackson Pickens and Jim Pickens. He grew up in the Milo Community and attended Central High School. At a young age, Arvell accepted Jesus and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as deacon, sang in the choir and served as President of the Trustee Board until his health failed. Arvell was a farmer and ran his own landscaping business, known as Arvell’s Landscaping. He was a hard-working workaholic. Arvell loved everyone and never minded helping when called upon. In his spare time he would fish, hunt with his brothers, vacation and spend time with family and friends.

Arvell is proceeded in death by his parents; three sisters: Bonnie Colbert, Erriah Godwin and Irene Stevenson and a brother, Weldon Pickens. He departed his earthly journey on June 2, 2022. He left to cherish his precious memories two brothers and sisters-in-law, Samuel Pickens and Shirley, Mark Pickens and Mazella, a sister and brother-in-law, Arzelia Shannon and Earl, special nieces and nephew, Sharon McGee and Lawrence and Tiffany Newberry all of Ardmore; five children which include two sons and daughters-in-law: Michael Pickens and Joanie, Oklahoma City, Arvell Pickens Jr., and Daniela, Fort Worth; three daughters, Ezette Pickens-Shepherd, LaVelle Luster both of Fort Worth, Megan Pickens and Jimmy, Ardmore, and Megan’s mother, Rosie; eight grandchildren, NaTasha Pickens, Michael Pickens Jr., Kylie Luster, Jacy Hamann, Genevieve Hamann, Davion Scott, Aiza Scott and M’Kale Scott; five great grandchildren, Angel Legan, Hope Jasmine Murry, Faith Jade Murry, Damian Pickens and Elijah Pickens; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

Bearers of the Bier are Arvell Pickens Jr., Michael Pickens, Kwlie Luster, Davion Scott, and Jacy Hamann. Honorary Bearers are Earl Shannon Jr., and Delky Godwin. Those attending the services are reminded to wear a mask.

Professional services are entrusted to the care of Kirk Funeral Home. Viewal will be held Friday between 10:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. in Kirk Funeral Home Chapel.
